snowballs in spring

Here is the latest runner on the 10 yard snowball warp. This time i am using the star treadle sequence. I think it is weaving up nice and square. I know my friend will be thrilled with this for her piano :)

This is the beginning of what i hope to be a 3 ply weft yarn. I really love this Falkland top. It is spinning up easily. The color is called daylily. At the time i bought it, i thought it was very different than the colors i usually choose. Now that I'm spinning it i realise that its the same yellow and green i am always drawn to, just a darker muted version is all.
I don't care, i still love it!

P.S. that is my soon to be 11 year old son. Isn't he handsome? :)

  1. Wow, I love the snowball piece that you're doing. So classic in blue and white! You did a wonderful job choosing the borders as it adds a nice touch to the weaving.
I've never spun Falkland wool. Do you have a favorite place where you buy it?
Your son is a handsome guy and that's neat that he's turning 11. They grow up so fast....

    1. im nowhere near an expert, but i find falkland easier to draft than merino. i think it may be somewhere between bfl and merino in terms of fineness, but that is only based on personal experience not actual data. this falkland top came from the edgewood garden studio on etsy. :) it has been so easy to spin i love it :)

  2. The snowball runner is beautiful! I love overshot. It is like magic watching each throw of the shuttle make the pattern appear!
Handsome young fellow indeed! Seems like when they get to this age they grow up so fast and then they are on their own.

    1. thank you :) you are right! that is exactly why i am addicted to the weave structure :) Rep weave is on my list of new things to try this year. the real question will be if i can jump off the overshot train long enough to give it a try :)
